NHFM welcomes first estates graduate trainee

We recently welcomed Mohammed Younas to NHFM as our first-ever Estates Graduate Trainee. Having recently completed a degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mohammed has relocated from Lancashire to the North East to take up this exciting opportunity. Over the next three years, he will undertake a structured rotation across our Estates teams at various sites, gaining valuable experience in a range of disciplines. As part of the programme, he will also spend time with our Community Estates and Capital teams, developing a broad understanding of healthcare estate management and supporting his professional development.
We caught up with Mohammed to find out how he is getting on in his new role:
What attracted you to the NHS Estates Graduate scheme?

What attracted me was being able to bring together my Mechanical Engineering background with my previous Estates experience, in an environment where I’d make a real difference. I also really liked the opportunity to develop my technical, leadership and management skills whilst gaining experience across the many different areas in NHS Estates.

Why did you pick Northumbria?

Northumbria stood out to me because of the range of experience available across its different sites and teams, including Engineering, Capital Project Management and Community Estates. I was also really impressed by the consistent recognition Northumbria has received for the quality and maintenance of its facilities.

How have you found it so far?

I’ve really enjoyed it so far. Everyone has been very welcoming and kept me busy, which is great. There’s a lot to learn, but it’s been a great introduction to NHS Estates and I’m looking forward to continuing!
