Three historical stones have been placed on the grounds of North Tyneside General Hospital to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the hospital. 
Jim Selby, electrical craftsperson who works for Northumbria Healthcare Facilities Management, noticed the historical stones laying in the yard and suggested they became a feature of the hospital for patients and staff to visit.
The stones were part of the original foundations of the Victoria Jubilee Infirmary with the foundation stone laid on the 21 June 1887.
Talking about the discovery of the stones, Jim said: “I found the bricks when doing some clearing out in the yard at North Tyneside and thought they looked interesting. After some research we found that they we’re part of the original foundations of the hospital dating back to 1887.
“We knew we couldn’t get rid of them and wanted them to feature in the hospital for staff and visitors to see. Coincidentally, North Tyneside General Hospital was marking its 40th anniversary September and thought this would be brilliant opportunity to celebrate the milestone.”
The stones were placed by Jim alongside chief executive of Northumbria Healthcare Birju Bartoli on Wednesday 18 September, the official anniversary of North Tyneside General Hospital.
The stones can be viewed by staff and visitors of the hospital in the Haven Garden at the site.
