In conversation with Eliza Fox, Medical Devices Education Facilitator
Tell us a bit about yourself?
My name is Eliza Fox and I am the Medical Devices Education Facilitator. I moved into this role in 2023 following the introduction of the e-Quip online training platform across the Trust. Our team works closely with Medical Engineering to ensure staff have access to the training and support they need to use medical devices safely and effectively.
Brief overview of your career journey?
I began my career in the NHS in 1994 as an Audio Typist before progressing into a Medical Secretary role. I then moved into administration within the Operating Theatres at Wansbeck, which inspired me to train as an Operating Department Practitioner specialising in anaesthetics.
Over the years, I have gained experience in both clinical and administrative roles, which has given me a strong understanding of the importance of education and how this contributes to patient safety. My current role combines many of these experiences and allows me to support colleagues across the Trust in a different but equally rewarding way.
What does a typical day look like?
No two days are ever quite the same, which is something I really enjoy about the role. A typical day may involve managing the administrative side of the e-Quip database, supporting staff with training queries, coordinating equipment training sessions, and liaising with company representatives to ensure suitable training resources are available before new equipment is introduced.
We also develop bespoke training where needed, deliver Medical Gas training to a variety of staff groups, contribute to induction programmes, and support new colleagues in understanding our systems and how we can help them in their roles.
What is one thing you would like people to know about your role?
I would like colleagues to know that we are here to help. Our aim is to support staff in accessing the training they need so they can feel confident and safe when using medical devices and equipment. We will always do our best to provide guidance, answer questions, and make training as accessible and straightforward as possible.
What do you enjoy most?
What I enjoy most about my role is the opportunity to meet and work with a wide range of teams across the Trust. I love learning more about the different roles people do and gaining a better understanding of the important work that happens across the organisation every day. It’s especially rewarding to know that the support and training we provide helps colleagues feel more confident in their roles, enabling them to deliver the best possible care and experience for patients.
