“It won’t be the same without her”: domestic staff celebrate retirement of NHFM’s long-serving employee

Last week, colleagues gathered to honour the remarkable career of Irene Atkinson, the longest-serving domestic assistant at NHFM and a beloved figure at North Tyneside General Hospital.

After 34 years of dedicated service, Irene, who joined the domestic services team in 1991, has retired at the age of 78. Known for her unwavering commitment to keeping the hospital clean, safe, and welcoming for patients, visitors, and staff alike, she has left an indelible mark on the entire team.

Speaking at the retirement celebration, domestic superintendent, Jackie Brown, paid tribute to Irene’s exceptional contribution: “I’m sure I speak for everyone when I say we are immensely grateful for Irene’s 34 years of service. Her dedication and work ethic have been truly inspiring. North Tyneside won’t be the same without her, but we all wish her a very well-deserved and happy retirement.”

Irene’s colleagues celebrated her retirement with warmth and gratitude, reflecting on her decades of service and the positive impact she made on those around her.
