Staff at Northumbria Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust are now benefitting from a modernised central changing facility at North Tyneside General Hospital (NTGH), designed to support active and sustainable travel. 
The trust has invested significantly in the refurbishment, which includes new lockers, secure bike storage, and upgraded amenities to enhance the day-to-day experience of staff. This project reflects Northumbria Healthcare’s commitment to its Active Hospital programme and its wider Net Zero plan, encouraging staff to choose active and sustainable travel options such as walking, cycling, or public transport.
Key features of the new facility include:
- More than 800 staff lockers
- Brand-new shower facilities
- Spacious, lockable changing rooms
- Integrated hair dryers
- Secure, code-access bike storage
- A sleek, modern interior design
Paul McNeillie, Deputy Director at Northumbria Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust, said: “We’re delighted to see this project completed. The new facility will not only be more enjoyable for staff to use, but it will also help support physical activity, encourage exercise, and have a positive impact on wellbeing.”
The development was delivered by Northumbria Healthcare Facilities Management (NHFM), the trust’s estates and facilities subsidiary, in partnership with project managers CCL Solutions.
