The Central Sterile Services Department (CSSD) is a new purpose-built Sterilisation facility located at NSECH.  This new building replaces the existing, ageing facilities in the Trust at North Tyneside and Wansbeck hospitals. All existing staff remained employed and relocated to work at the new facility.  The project represents an overall investment by the Trust of £8m.

• The project used off-site construction methodologies with the majority of the building developed in a factory in Cramlington and brought to site for assembly around the steel frame.
• The scheme was designed to deliver a net zero carbon project in support of the NHS Green Plan and our Sustainability agenda
• The completion of the project will remove one of the ‘legacy Estate risks’ given the age and general obsolescence of the existing facilities.
• The NHFM Project Team monitored the quality of workmanship and compliance of on-site works throughout the construction process and the end product delivers a high standard of quality.
