NVS Shop Conversion to café facility
We worked closely with the Bright charity to redesign and refurbish their volunteer service shop/ café at North Tyneside General Hospital. The project was managed by projects officer Joshua Bell, and the ten week programme was undertaken and completed during the Covid-19 global pandemic.
The design brief
The design brief, provided by the Bright Charity, was to enable a change to the provision of service from a general shop / coffee area to a much larger opened-up space from which a sumptuously appointed café facility could be used for social prescribing activities to benefit patients and staff.
The highest quality finish throughout
This complex project involved dealing with numerous contractors and products to achieve the highest quality finish throughout, whilst ensuring that the newly developed Government Covid-19 safe working guidance was adhered to at all times.
Working to achieve the highest possible standard whilst regulations and working practice were changing daily was a new challenge which was handled with care and precision. The brief to deliver a modern, comfortable, high-end café for staff and patients to enjoy was met and exceeded by the contractors and design team.

It was great to see two years of planning come to fruition. This was the first time that the charity had worked on anything like this to develop a design fit for the future. Despite all of the challenges faced during construction, including shortages of materials, NHFML did a great job and delivered the vision.
