“I’m Stacy Armstrong and I’m a personal assistant to the Managing Director & Senior Management team. I’ve worked for NHFML for four years now, and prior to that I worked in the healthcare sector for years. I started my working life in the retail sector and I’m so glad I made the change into health – I absolutely love my job!
My senior managers noticed my potential early on and really encouraged me to push the boundaries – it’s why I am where I am today. There is plenty of opportunity to develop your career if it something you are keen to do. NHFML are part of the Government’s apprenticeship levy which is fully funded through your employer, allowing employees to gain a professional qualification.
I have successfully completed my BA (Hons) in Leadership and Business Management at Northumbria University achieving a 2.1. I could not be more grateful for the opportunity and support provided by my peers, working full time and studying was not easy, but my line manager offered support and guidance throughout.
I provide support to the MD and Senior Management team by providing a high quality administrative and secretarial service, ensuring the office is organised and ran efficiently. Other duties include diary management, assisting with the preparation of Board papers and presentations and liaising with Board members and other Senior Managers both within the department and the trust as well as external bodies. My role is varied which often requires the need to re-prioritise my own work as well as that of the Senior Management team.
Good communication skills are key to my role, as I often need to communicate information to staff. I also have to use my own initiative, reacting promptly to any situations in a professional manner.
If you’re thinking of a similar role to me, go for it! It’s a fantastic and varied role where you are constantly learning.”
